Important for listening! When the vowel sound /oi/ is before L , e.g. oil, boil, soil , many speakers put the vowel /∂/ between them. You may find it easier to say it this way. When the vowel sound /aυ/ is before R or L , many speakers put the vowel /∂/ between them, so hour rhymes with shower , and foul rhymes with towel.
